Presidency University started its journey way back in 1817 when a group of intellectuals established the Hindoo College to introduce western education in India. It was transformed to Presidency College of Bengal' in 1855 and only in 2010 did it receive the status of a University. This was enacted with a view to enabling Presidency University to function more efficiently as a centre of teaching and research in various branches of learning, especially in Humanities, Social and Basic Sciences, and promoting advancement and dissemination of knowledge and learning in the service of the society and the nation.Today, it conducts undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the following subjects: • Bengali • Life Sciences • Chemistry • Economics • English • Geography • Geology • Hindi • History • Mathematics • Performing Arts • Physics • Philosophy • Political Science • Sociology • Statistics
